Asbestos Abatement

Asbestos presents a known health hazard, primarily as a result of inhaling asbestos fibers. The use of asbestos has been greatly restricted since the 1970s, although even new buildings may contain some asbestos. ARM Environmental Services has the experience and qualifications that government regulators require to perform asbestos abatement and remediation.

Asbestos Concerns

Asbestos is a collective term for the following six specific minerals:

  • Actinolite
  • Amosite
  • Anthphyllite
  • Chrysotile
  • Crocidolite
  • Tremolite

Chrysotile accounts for about 95 percent of the asbestos used for construction in the United States, so the term “asbestos” typically refers specifically to chrysotile unless otherwise stated. Asbestos has primarily been used as a fire retardant and insulator, and is an inexpensive material. The optimum abatement and remediation procedures for asbestos may depend on whether the fibers are friable, meaning they crumble easily, or non-friable.

Asbestos Abatement and Remediation Services

Abatement and Remediation Services

ARM first performs an assessment to determine the level of risk the asbestos poses, which allows us to develop a plan for abatement or remediation. A remediation plan generally involves sealing or covering asbestos materials to isolate them from a building’s work environment. Negative air pressure is often used to draw air containing asbestos fibers away from a contained area, which then passes through High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters before being exhausted outside the building. Abatement and remediation procedures may also require sections of a building to be sealed off temporarily.
